If you're in Melbourne there are only a few more days - until the 19th July - to check out

Ollie Lucas' video work 'Neon Dispersion', in The Gertrude Street Projection Festival.

Site Number: 6
Site Location: Sunspel, 77 Gertrude St.

Neon Dispersion focuses on the information age and it’s impact on large cities. In particular, central urban areas such as Federation Square, Times Square, Moscow’s Red Square and Shibuya. These spaces offer a work place, a festive space, a physical location and a hyperreal site for information-exchange, all at once.

+++ Don't miss Ollie's newest exhibition on now at the Vero Centre, Auckland CBD. +++

Pierre Peeters Gallery is Niue Bound

We wish our Director Pierre Peeters and Curator Claire Ulenberg the very best for their upcoming trip to Niue, where they have been kindly invited by Mark and Ahi Cross to judge the sculpture biennial in the Cultural Festival of Niue. All entries will be displayed at the 'Sale's Fale' at the Hikulangi Sculpture Park. For more information on Hikulangi Sculpture Park, please click here.

'Sale's Fale' is an ongoing project in memory of the Niue High School art teacher  Charles Jessop who passed away June 2012 aged 47. Charles was born in New Zealand and after graduating from Elam in the 80's, he decided return to Niue and teach art at Niue High School. Charles, also known as Sale, countered the urban drift by coming back to Niue, becoming a representative  of the heroic return of the Niue Diaspora against all the odds. He is remembered by his many students, the Niue art Community and the Niue public in general, as a humble and diligent contributor to the country. With this in mind, the sculpture is in the form of a monumental montage constructed by the Niue community through the biennial competition "The Charles  Jessop  Memorial  Sculpture Prize."

Major Mark Cross Work up for Auction

A major work by Mark Cross is up for auction at the International Art Centre's 'IMPORTANT, EARLY & RARE' Auction this Wednesday 25th March at 6:30pm.

Mark Cross, Conquest of Optimism (1985)

Mark Cross, Conquest of Optimism (1985)

Cross writes about this work - "At this time the world was in a depressing state of anxiety over the fragility of east/west relations and the senselessness of the arms race. We were bombarded with pessimistic media images and it seemed to me that this pessimism was more than a symptom of the potentiality for nuclear war but a major contributing factor to the possible cause. My protagonist in the painting became my pillar of strength and the exaggerated glow from the fish the source of optimism that she carried. The two energy-charged sets of power-lines are a symbol of the potential for constructive dialogue and communication. It was the first time I was confident enough to use a variety of non place-specific elements within a painting and thus break out of the subjectivity of place/identity restrictions that realism almost inevitably finds itself."

Alvin Xiong Lights Up Remuera

Alivn Xiong's work Life Is Like Summer Flowers (2015) is now on permanent display in Remuera. We're thrilled for Alvin and also pleased for Aucklanders who are now able to see the spectacular sights of summer all year round.

Inspired by Tagore who wrote "Let life be like beautiful summer flowers and death like autumn leaves." Likening the feeling of being in love with a beautiful, bright and open flower, Xiong uses LED lights to represent his personal love story. The sensuous curves in his work, with reference to Mondrian's views are expressions of emotion. The work in Remuera is shining and 'alive', so the feeling of love is still present. Little by little, one day, the light will not shine. It means the feeling of this love story is gone but at the same time, the artwork is complete, now fixed and becomes a love memento. Do make sure to see this special work.
