Gareth Price is largely a self taught artist. He attended Selwyn College and studied art during his college years. He has painted continuously since, and has been with the Pierre Peeters Gallery since 2005.

Quantum physics, Freud, and the artist's own brand of "magical realism", where familiar motifs are placed in unfamilar surrounds, all play a part in Price's immaculate, painstaking visions.

In 2009 Price received third prize for the surrealist category of the Inaugural Motion Arts Awards, Auckland.  Prices's art is featured in the New Zealand Gallery Book  (2010).

Gareth Price's latest painting 'The Pillar of Light', (2015) pays tribute to the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER which is an outdoor work of art conceived by Yoko Ono in memory of John Lennon.

Price's painting is in homage to this monumental testament to love and hope for the future and how we can live sustainably.
